Federal Immigration Minister Marc Miller has announced changes that will impact study permits for international students.
The Canadian government has placed a cap on the number of study permits it will issue in 2024 and 2025 with individual provinces responsible for allocating study permits to designated learning institutions. Additional restrictions have been placed on post graduate work rights that will impact international students studying in higher education. You can read the government’s announcement in full here.

I’ve already been accepted to Fanshawe Toronto@ILAC for the summer 2024 semester and received my study permit prior to Jan. 22, 2024. What happens next?
If you have received your study permit and have been accepted to the summer intake at Fanshawe Toronto @ILAC , you will continue to register and transition to Canada as planned. If you have received your study permit and have not submitted a copy to Fanshawe College, please complete the international student form now: International Student Form | Sign In (fanshawec.ca)
I have been accepted to Fanshawe Toronto@ILAC for the summer 2024 intake but have not yet applied for my study permit, what should I do?
At this time, all applications for study permits, inclusive of Summer 2024 will not be processed until the Letter of Attestation has been issued. Please continue to check both this site and IRCC website as this evolves.
Are current students of Fanshawe Toronto@ILAC still eligible for a PGWP?YES, international students who are already enrolled, and those starting Summer 2024 will continue to maintain their eligibility to apply for PGWP pending successful program completion in the allocated time.
I want to apply to start in Summer 2024 or Fall 2024. Is it still possible?Applications are still being considered for Summer 2024 intake for onshore students with a valir study permit. Please contact our International Recruitment team to inquire about open programs here:

How can I get an attestation letter for my study permit application?As of January 22, 2024, every study permit application submitted to IRCC will require an attestation letter from the province. The Ontario government will establish a process for issuing attestation letters by no later than March 31, 2024. We will provide additional information as it becomes available.
Are new students starting in the September intake still eligible for a Post-Graduate Work Permit?Starting September 1, 2024, new international students starting their studies at Fanshawe Toronto@ILAC will no longer be eligible for PGWP upon graduation.
